Hula Dreams

Posted: 20 Jul 2004

Famous artists, pop stars and musicians, Central Desert artists, Top End artists, a Samoan Islander, a cartoonist and even a landscape gardener, answered the call.

One of Australia's best known ukulele players, Mic Conway is turning his uke into an island; photographer Greg Weight has transformed his into a portrait of Tiny Tim. Mike Cooper, a highly respected Hawaiian guitar player, is sending a Free West Papua song on his ukulele all the way from Rome, while Bob Daly has custom made a uke out of a hub cap.

Other artists strumming their stuff include Reg Mombassa, Martin Sharp, Garry Shead, Kaz Cooke, Peter Kingston, Lucy Culliton, Peter O'Doherty, John Wolseley, Adam Rish, Bruce Goold, Martin Plaza and George Gittoes.

This has to be the ideal show to celebrate the arrival of summer.
